The Eternal Love Affair
Astrology would say that the attraction between Radha and Krishna is all that it is because their birth stars are aligned exactly opposite to each other in the vast cosmos. And there are, of course, so-called spiritual souls who deny the presence of Radha altogether. They find Her to be the personification of life force, and say all those lovely tales are about life's own surrender to the Divine Lord. If that's indeed the case, then we are becoming all the more interested to know why Radha and Krishna never got married, and still got to have an unending love affair.
Sinking in those times, we know that Krishna was more than annoyed when Yashoda couldn't accept Radha as His Wife. Different sources have come up with different reasons as to why she was against her beloved son. Our Superstar was still so stubborn that Maharaj Nanda was forced to escalate the matter to Krishna's Guru Sandipani, who then revealed to Krishna why He was born and what His responsibilities were. The Lord refused to pay heed even then. He didn't wanna let down Radha for the sake of establishing Dharma, as He found no point in having His love in pain for the purpose of redeeming the world. But, a while later by dusk, atop the Govardhana Hill, He attained Enlightenment in this absolute agony. He then realized and came to terms that He and Radha needed to part ways. Though it was not a full moon that night, He called His cowherd pals and conducted Raas Leela. And that was also the last time He was with Radha in the physical realm of life. In the guise of gifting Her His Flute, He gave away all His Love. Thereafter, He did marry many wives, but none of them knew the Krishna that Radha did. This reality calls for a deeper understanding.
On Enlightenment, Krishna realized how life would traverse and that He had to stay off Radha forever. She too accepted that abiding by His Ways is the way to be. So, Radha Herself ensured they weren't for each other like before. This way, the duo embraced life's ways and the world's needs, which is indeed what true love is. Love is losing out oneself holding "the other" higher than the self. And, when "the other" is not just the one you fell for and includes many more for whom you feel for, your love has worked that divine magic. For many, marriage is the step to getting here, as the wedding is a celebration of having pulled down that self-centeredness in a big way. Then, life together sees each of the duo mature more easily, as their love for each other steadily pushes them. But, Radha Krishna beautifully bloomed without ever tying the knot to see themselves off such a need. Sacrificing the joy of togetherness as they had always known until then, they elevated their love to an all-new level. Considering what is really needed for the whole world, they played down their own maniac love for each other, which is why they themselves and their emotions are eternally divine.
If you are really a devout soul, then you are most likely like Radha Krishna themselves. You could be sensitive to suffering around that you may shed tears for a stranger in pain. If you have even broken the identity of being human, then you being humane will be divine. The plight of a wounded animal could be distressing, and the sight of a fallen tree disturbing. If you are such a spiritually mature soul, be mindful when you choose to wed because you can be yourself and at your best only when married to a high-spirited devotee as yourself. Isn't it? Don't you deserve an awesome life partner who would understand, love, and support you in every way? Don't you need a spouse to whom your spiritual growth matters?
